The people

The people behind it

Kipepeo is run by Martin Andreas Kluck from Stuttgart-Feuerbach. The clothes are sewn at Kiboko Leisure Wear in Nairobi by people the shop introduces by name: Esther Katungwa has been sewing T-shirts there since 1997, Daniel Makau has been warehouse manager since 1999, Puriti Kanini has worked in quality control since 2005. They describe what their work makes possible: school for their children, a small house, a little farm.

The products

Animal motifs such as ELEPHANT, HIPPO and BABY-TURTLE define the shirts for women, men and children, alongside basic shirts, baby bodysuits, handmade soft toys from Kenya and baskets and bags from partner projects. Prices range from roughly 16 to 40 euros depending on the size.

The place

The place

Office and warehouse sit on Friedrich-Scholer-Strasse in Stuttgart-Feuerbach, an eight-minute walk from the train station, tucked behind shipping containers along the railway. From here the team has supported projects in Kenya and Tanzania since 2008 — most recently a kitchen building for over 300 schoolchildren and a new school gate for Mbondoni School.
