The people

The master potter

Born in Leipzig in 1973, Ulrike Rost learned the potter's craft from scratch and worked in 13 workshops across Germany and England during her journeyman years, among them Hedwig Bollhagen in Marwitz and Echt Bürgeler Blau Weiß in Bürgel. In 1997 she bought an old farmstead in Schkölen and founded her own workshop; she passed her master's examination in 1998. Today she teaches course guests, apprentices and teachers.

The product

Ceramics from her own designs

Every piece is made by the master's hand from her own designs. Across more than 200 m² you will find tableware and decorative ceramics of all kinds – teapots, cups, plates, jars – as well as commissions ranging from engraved wine goblets to museum replicas, for instance for the Egyptian Museum in Leipzig. The shop also carries teas, liqueurs, jams, candles, plant-based soap, table linen, wooden toys and books.

The place

A four-sided farmstead in Schkölen

The listed four-sided farmstead sits in Schkölen near Markranstädt, about 25 minutes by car from central Leipzig. It houses the workshop, the shop, a small café with a fireplace and a barn that has hosted concerts, readings and the annual autumn pottery festival since 2005.
